-On July 4, 2016, the Freedom of Information Act turned 50. To mark the occasion, Phil published FOIA-focused articles for the Columbia Journalism Review and Boston magazine.

-On May 10, 2016 - the fifth anniversary of the verdict in the trial of Dr. Paul Volkman (a story Phil has covered since 2009) - Phil published an op-ed in the Columbus Dispatch, "Evidence In Pill-Mill Case Held Under Lock and Key."

-On April 30, Phil won a first-place Rhode Island Press Association award in the "Profile or Personality Story" category for his June 2015 Rhode Island Monthly profile of RI attorney, Max Wistow. See the full list of 2016 RIPA award winners here. And read the award-winning article here.

-In Fall of 2016, Phil will teach a new workshop in RISD's Literary +Arts Studies department, "Introduction to Nonfiction." The most recent class he taught was "True Crime" during Wintersession 2016.
